Trendy Curvy - Page 4 of 112 - Plus Size Fashion BlogTrendy Curvy

March 10, 2019

One trend that I have started to see quite often lately is pastel suiting. I think that we all know by now that work wear is not what it used to be. Work wear used to function exclusively for the office. It was made up of darker colors like black and navy, and it was meant to look professional and serious. Nowadays, suiting has taken on a whole new meaning and has gone from the office, to drinks and beyond. Vibrant colors, prints and even embellishments have marked this new wave of business attire. Since Spring is right around the corner, it’s only fitting that pant suits are coming in these light, airy pastels like lavender, baby blue and blush pink.

So of course, as my blog name suggests, I have to follow the trends. I did so by rocking this matching set from Calvin Klein. I’m a huge fan of blazers as I’m sure some of you know already. They are one of the most versatile pieces that you can dress up or down. I love how this one doesn’t have too much structure, giving you the flexibility to style as you wish. Since I wanted to stay true the suit look, I wore the matching pants in this beautiful lavender shade. And it was just my luck that I had a pair of pumps that went perfectly with the outfit. Not only did they match exactly, but a pump was the exact shoe that this needed to complete. Check out the outfit details below and try your own version of this bossed up trend.

New Sofia Vergara x Walmart Jeans

March 7, 2019

I love being able to share with you all new brands and new places to shop. I especially enjoy when these brands are super accessible and affordable. That is definitely the case in this situation. I am rocking the newest collection from the one and only Sofia Vergara called Sofia Jeans available at Walmart! Yes, you read that correctly. Sofia has partnered with the mega-brand to launch on-trend denim and feminine tops at prices ranging from only $14-$40. Carrying sizes from a 0-20, this line includes us girl with curves. It is dedicated to the “confident women that know that sexy isn’t one size fits all”. Yes Sofia!

Sofia Jeans Review

I have to admit, that I was a little skeptical about the denim in particular. With a price point of just $24.50, I just didn’t know what to expect when it came to quality. However, I was pleasantly surprised! These mid rise jeans are well made, have great style and fit my body. The slight distressing give the denim a bit of edge and make them more fashion forward. I also love where the hem hits me. I prefer my denim to come above my ankle so that I can showcase whatever shoe I have on. This pair did just that and the raw edge added a simple, yet chic touch.

Now, I will mention that this particular pair isn’t true to size on me. I am typically a size 18 and had to size up to a 20, which puts me at the top of the range. It doesn’t have as much stretch as the jeans that I’m used to so that may account for the increased size. As you can see though, once I got in my correct size, they fit me nicely.

This top is also from the line as I wanted to try multiple items. Although simple, I love this peasant blouse. It’s one of those casual, easy to wear type of styles that you can pair with just about anything. I’m always on the go so I cherish tops that don’t require much work. This top retails for $19.50 so altogether, you can get both items for less than $50. You cannot beat that! You can shop her other tops here as well including some great graphic tees. I picked up this t-shirt as well because I loved the message.

Be sure to check out the line on It has been so popular that some of the items have sold out. No need to worry though, new Summer items will be launching in April!

Marching Into Spring

March 3, 2019

I feel as though at the beginning of each new month, I repeat the same phrase to myself. “It’s ______ already?!” In this¬† case, I’m surprised once again that March is here and that we are practically a quarter through the year. Time is not waiting for anyone! The good thing about these months flying by is that we are inching closer and closer to Spring. Fashion is already fully immersed into Spring trends so it just makes the anticipation grow even fonder. Pastels, floral prints, and colored outerwear are all some of the popular styles going into the new season.

So, I’m dabbling into Spring with this floral ponte skirt from Torrid. In the words of Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking!” We all know that floral print is not the most inventive pattern during this time of year, but how can you resist? It is just the quintessential symbol of the season. Since the skirt had some blush notes in it, I wanted to play off of that and bring it into the top and bag. It’s a very feminine look and the pink just adds to that overall aesthetic. Finally, I finished the outfit with some caramel colored pumps that are almost flesh toned as to know take away from the other elements. I’m ready for you Spring!

On this last day of Black History Month, I felt the need to create this post. I would be remiss if I did not highlight some of the black-owned businesses that I have come to know and love.¬† Although TrendyCurvy is about fashion, I think that it is also important to bring attention to things that I am passionate about. One of those things is the advancement of people of color so that we are better represented financially and economically. So, I have compiled a small list of some of the brands that I am a frequent customer of to share with you. This is in the hopes that you may discover a new product that you love like I do. It is also to challenge you to think more consciously about where you spend your money and to support more minority-owned companies. So, without further adieu, let’s get into it!

Coloured Raine

I am frequently asked about what brand of lipstick that I’m wearing and nine times out of ten, I have on Coloured Raine. I first got introduced to this brand from a beauty blogger and have been hooked ever since. Every color that I tried suited me so well and when I discovered that the company was founded by a black woman, I knew exactly why. Perfectly pigmented and so complimentary to my skin tone, I have purchased their products again and again. My absolute favorite shades that I have purchased countless times are Cherry Blossom (thee perfect red), Oh La La (a vibrant raspberry pink) and Berri Raine (purple kisses anyone?). As you can see from two of these being sold out, they are definitely the favorites. Don’t fret though, just join the waiting list and you will be notified once they become available again.

I’m also hooked on their eye shadows as well including this gorgeous Queen of Hearts palette (even more stunning in person).

The Lip Bar

I discovered this brand from another influencer, Kela Walker. If you don’t follow her on Instagram, you should! She is constantly putting her following up on game when it comes to beauty and skincare products. She did an unboxing on her Instagram stories of this immaculate shade of liquid matte lipstick that I had to have! Turns out, the lipstick was from not only from a black-owned brand, but it retails for only $13. SIGN ME UP! I immediately went on to their website and cleaned up buying several shades.

M. Roze

As I get older, skincare has become the utmost priority when it comes to my daily routine. In researching products for my skin, I discovered that women of color tend to face the same struggles. This is partly due to our complexion and genetics. Because of that, we need specific products to address our particular needs. Things like hyper pigmentation, melasma and dark spots are all areas of concern.

In comes M. Roze. I was contacted by someone from the company who graciously offered to send me products to try. Their products being vegan, gluten-free, paraben-free, and are specifically formulated for black women. I began incorporating them into my regimen and over time, have seen a difference in the look and feel of my skin. Plus, the packaging is so perfectly chic and simple.

Rue 107

Wearing Rue 107 while in New Orleans

I could not do a round up of black businesses and not touch on this fashion brand. If you have not heard of Rue 107, you should definitely get familiar with them. They have unique, super stylish pieces that are sure to be head turners. With sizes ranging from a small all the way to a 3x, they really have something for just about everyone. I love their eye-catching colors and prints, as well as their styles that I don’t see anywhere else. Founded by Marie Jean-Baptiste, Rue 107 based out of New York is definitely one of my favorites.

Smash Shoes

Now, I am a little biased about this one because the owner of Smash Shoes, Ashlie Davis, is a friend of mine. However, that’s even more reason to highlight her brand in my opinion. Ashlie has tapped into a hole in the market and that is fashionable shoes for sizes 11 and up. Being of a larger shoe size herself, she knows personally the struggle that it is to fine on-trend footwear. So, she took it into her own hands and Smash Shoes was birthed. She has everything from thigh high boots, to booties, to sandals and more.

Brown Estate

This past year, I visited Napa for the first time. One of the first things on my to-do list was to visit Brown Estate. Travel Noire is a website that I follow that is dedicated to offering travel inspiration and tips from the perspective of the African diaspora. They published an article that highlighted black-owned wineries of which Brown Estate was listed. They have a beautiful tasting room right in the center of downtown Napa.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this post and I hope that you found it helpful! Happy Black History Month!
