This is one of those travel recap posts where I don’t even know where to begin because it was such a great trip. So, I will just dive right in. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I visited The Big Easy last week for Essence Festival. Essence Festival is a huge event that brings about 500,000 people to the city of New Orleans every 4th of July weekend. It was highlighted in the movie Girls Trip and it celebrates black culture, music and of course food! I went to my first Essence Festival two years ago and I have been so excited to go back. So here are all of the details of my latest trip. Enjoy!

Where I Stayed

My first time in New Orleans, I stayed on Bourbon Street. While it was fun and exciting, it was also…a lot! So this time around, I decided to rent a house. My sister and some friends came so it seemed like the perfect option for us all to be under one roof. It was the best decision. The house was absolutely gorgeous. It was the perfect blend of New Orleans old charm mixed with modern details. This historic home was built in the 1890s and a lot of those older details that you can’t find anywhere else have been preserved. However, it had features like a top of the line, modern kitchen, surround sound throughout the entire home including the backyard and rain head steam shower. Plus, it had a private pool that was so needed in the sweltering humidity.

The Big Easy

July 7, 2019

I’m still here in New Orleans and this trip has been nothing short of amazing. This city is quickly becoming one of my favorites and being a part of Essence Festival just makes it that much more special. There’s something about coming together as a community to celebrate one another that is unexplainable. I have had so many laughs, so many “hey girl hey’s”, and of course, so much good food.

Aside from the festival, my favorite thing about this city is for sure the architecture. There’s nothing like it. So many 100+ year old buildings with original features just make walking around so dreamy. So many beautiful colors, bright shutters, and picturesque balconies.

So this outfit just blended right in with this colorful city. The humidity here is at an all time high so I wanted to keep things breathable and flowy. This kimono was perfect to add a pop of color with ease.

Animal Instincts

June 30, 2019

Just because its Summer, doesn’t mean that you can’t wear animal print! Although leopard print is most utilized in the Fall, there are definitely other seasons where it can be worn. Since the Summertime is all about color, the way to make this print work for this time of year is to infuse it with a pop of color. It not only puts a fun twist on this classic print, but it also makes it a bit of a statement piece.

So, when I saw this skirt while at JCPenney, I gravitated to it immediately. I have posted JCPenney fashion several times on my blog before and I keep them in my fashion rotation. You absolutely cannot beat their prices (just look at the price of this skirt) and I feel as though their styles are on-trend.

Since this skirt is such a show-stopper, I decided to keep everything else very minimal. A simple white tank top adds a crisp, clean palette against this loud print. Gold accessories are my favorite so I added a gold cuff, necklace and clutch to the mix. Finally, I finished it off with simple black heeled sandals that, by the way, are super comfortable.

Summer Trend: The Mighty Palm

June 25, 2019

This post is sponsored by Walmart. All opinions are my own

It is officially Summer ladies and gentlemen! That means that it’s officially shorts season and as you can see, I’ve already started to take full advantage. This head-to-toe look is brought to you by Walmart. In my last post, I discussed Walmart’s “We Dress America“, which celebrates fashion for all. It’s great fashion at great prices and the brands underneath this umbrella offer a ton of amazing Summer styles. All of the latest Summer trends are available from hot tropics, to statement swim to bright & bold colors.

These styles came at the perfect time for me because I was able to take some of the items with me on my recent trip to Honolulu as evidence in my recap post. This Aloha tote could not have been a more perfect beach bag for the trip.

I also brought along this look with me and it perfectly blended in with beautiful scenery of the Hawaiian islands. These shorts were the perfect length for me. I’m not one to wear really short shorts so it hit me right where I was comfortable. Plus, they fit really well. This kimono was a no-brainer. Not only is it a kimono (a garment in which I love), but it’s palm print, which is thee quintessential print for a Summer vacation. As far as the shoes go, I only brought one pair of heels on the entire trip. This getaway was much more about relaxing than anything else. So, these wedge espadrilles were ideal to dress a look up without needed to wear actual heels.
