Hello! It’s me again, back with another Sunday blog post! As I stated in my previous post, so much had changed in that past week with the Coronavirus starting to ramp up here in the U.S., particularly California. Well, unfortunately, even more has changed from that post to this one. I’m sure that you have heard that California is on a state-wide shut down to help slow the spread of the virus. Grocery stores here in Los Angeles have been barren for weeks, making it difficult to get basic necessities during this time. Work has slowed down with so many clothing stores closed. Of course you can still shop online, however every industry is feeling the effects of this pandemic. Life has just completely become surreal!

I was able shoot some outfits just two days before the official “shelter at home” order was placed. I’m trying to maintain some sort of normalcy even though this is far from normal. As the number continue to climb of those that have the disease and those that have succumb to it, you can’t help but to be overwhelmed. Each number represents a real person, a family member, a parent. So although, I will continue to do what I love and post my fashion looks, I know that mental health is just as important as physical health. Read on to see some tips on how to manage anxiety during this time.

So these tips are ones that I gathered from different sites. I thought they were really key for right now and in the future for any other circumstances that you may face. I hope that this helps you in some way.

  1. Know that it’s okay to have anxiety and that you are not alone.
  2. Limit your media exposure, especially if you’ve struggled with anxiety before.
  3. Be easy on yourself. Some days may be worse than others.
  4. Try to focus on what you are grateful for, not what you wish would change.
  5. Do what you can to protect yourself and your community.
  6. Attempt to maintain a routine.
  7. Make sure to spend time to reach out to friends and family virtually.
  8. Just breathe!

Sweater – JCPenney (exact color out of stock but other colors available). Similar cardigan here | Dress – Old Navy (only maternity remaining. Similar dress here) | Shoes – Simply Be*

*BOOT FIT NOTES: Simply Be boots are offered in various calf sizes as well as shoe widths. If you click on “Size Guide” and make sure you are on the “Find You Calf Width” tab, you will see all of the measurements per size. The only options for this particular shoe are Standard & Super Curvy, EEE and E. From the size guide, select your shoe size in either the E or EEE to see the calf widths. I based my decision on calf width only (Standard or Super Curvy) because that matters the most for boots. My calves measure at about 19.5 inches so I ordered a size 10 E in the Super Curvy.

One of the best things about having a blog is being able to highlight all facets of who I am and partner with brands that fully embrace that. While my platform is founded on the fact that I am a plus size woman, it’s also very apparent that I am a black woman. I take immense pride in my ethnicity and this sisterhood that I have with women of color. Having this platform allows me the ability to take full advantage of celebrating my community and empowering us to be confident in our own skin.

As you know, I’ve partnered with Tampax® and Always® on several initiatives throughout the past couple of years. Everything from donating thousands of tampons to homeless shelters in downtown Los Angeles, to supporting efforts to #EndPeriodPoverty of young girls around the country, to simply echoing my blog’s mission of being about to wear what you want. What I love most about these brands is that it is about much more than just selling products. They have a relentless mission to be instill confidence and empower women and girls all over the world.

I personally love the Tampax Pocket Radiant tampons offer the same incredible protection of Tampax Radiant Tampons, in a discreet, compact size. I can fit these into the tinniest of pockets or purses! Overall, the great benefit of the Tampax and Always Radiant Collection is that it’s up to 100% leak & odor free so you can wear what you want every day of the month!

This time, they are focusing on spreading the message of #BlackGirlMagic by hosting their second annual #RadiantDanceOff, in partnership with HBCU Dance Corporation, Inc.  – a national, online dance competition exclusively for majorette teams at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Through the #RadiantDanceOffContest, majorette teams at HBCUs submitted their show-stopping routines to RadiantDanceOff.com for the chance to win $20,000 and the costumes of their dreams. Now until Monday, October 22, alumni, fans, friends and family can visit the site to cast their vote for their favorite majorettes and sharing video links across social media. The top five videos with the highest number of votes will be judged to determine the winner.

Be sure to go to RadiantDanceOff.com to cast your vote for your favorite routine. Also, if you went to an HBCU, sound off your alma mater in the comments!

Style Freedom w/ Dove

Let me set the scene. You open your closet to try to figure out what to wear and you just stare. You stare at the many garments you own while thinking about which pieces will be suitable for your day. You take into consideration the occasion, the weather, how comfortable you want to be, and all of the other things that factor into your decision. It can be a lot! So, the last thing that you want to do is add another worry to your plate. For instance, when wearing sleeveless clothing, the look and feel of your underarms can be important. You want to feel confident and know that you will be protected all day long.

I’ve partnered with the Dove team to try out their Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant in Beauty Finish. I personally wear a lot of sleeveless styles from day to night and for a myriad of different occasions. Living in Southern California allows me the ability to wear them almost all year long. I can rock a sleeveless top on a Saturday afternoon going to get ice cream…

…to a night out on the town with my girls. Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant keeps me feeling fresh all day, and not having to worry about my underarms provides me with complete style freedom.

Let’s talk about what the benefits are of using Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant. It provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection while going on instantly dry. Also, it cares for my skin and leaves me feeling confident to rock my favorite sleeveless looks!

Wearing deodorant is a necessary component to everyday life. I think that’s something that we can all agree on. However, there are many options that you can choose from when making your next purchase. It may seem insignificant and often overlooked, but when you have a great product that not only smells good but cares for your skin, it makes all the difference. I highly encourage you to consider Dove’s Dry Spray Antiperspirant for your future needs. If you do, let me know how you like it!

Girls Support Girls

As you already know, I am an Always Ambassador. I have really enjoyed working with the brand as it has been one of my most meaningful partnerships. The reason for that is the Always and Tampax brands give back to the community in amazing ways. They are not just a company that sells products but they really try to make an impact in the lives of those in need. Last year, I was able to partner with Tampax to donate 40,000 tampons to an organization of my choice as seen in this post. I chose the Midnight Mission in Downtown LA’s Skid Row which has one of the highest homelessness rates in the country. This time around, I’m excited to share a new initiative from Always that is aiming to help #EndPeriodPoverty here in the US.

The Mission

The #EndPeriodPoverty mission is centered around this: nearly 1 in 5 American girls have either left school early or missed school entirely because of a lack of access to period products. This lack of access starts a vicious cycle: missing classes, getting behind in school work and missing out on activities, like sports and clubs. These activities help build her confidence and skills, and missing out can limit a girl’s potential and opportunities far beyond puberty.

This back-to-school season, Always wants to raise awareness about the lack of access to period products that is affecting millions of girls in the U.S., and take action to help #EndPeriodPoverty.

How We Can Help

Always is on a mission to help ensure no girl in the U.S. misses school and loses confidence because she doesn’t have access to period protection. To do so, they are targeting to donate an additional 15 million period products to Feeding America, a long-standing partner, through the organization’s school pantry program, which provides food, toiletries and personal care products to kids who are most in need. In addition, Always is also partnering with Amazon to make a bigger impact for girls this school year.

Every purchase of Always from July 29th to September 8th on Amazon will trigger an additional donation of period product to girls in need.

Donate Through Amazon

Confidence in women and girls is something that I’m passionate about. I know how much confidence in yourself can truly change the way you see the world and how you go through life. I would not be a fraction of what I am had I not had some confidence in myself so I want to get these girls off to a good start. Be sure to order your Always products from Amazon today using this link to support girls all over the country.
