Plus Size Swimwear Lookbook 2017

June 11, 2017

My swimwear lookbook is here! Recently, I took a little vacation to Miami as you can see here. I stayed at the beautiful Nobu Eden Roc hotel and had an amazing time. While there, I took advantage of the gorgeous scenery and shot my annual swimwear lookbook right on the hotel grounds. Now if you’ve been following me for a while now, you already know the drill. But to those that are new to my blog, every year I round up some of my favorite swimwear styles of the season. You can see my previous posts here and here. Historically, it has been so difficult to find trendy plus size swimwear but every year I do this lookbook there seems to be more and more options. Here are just some of the cute styles that caught my eye and that I styled with my own little flair. Enjoy!

I featured La Blanca for the first time on my lookbook last year and I had to feature them again. This time, I went with their one pieces that are unlike any that I have seen out there. Their attention to detail with the lace up front and gold hardware makes for one fabulous poolside look.

What can I say? SwimsuitsForAll will always be a staple in my swimwear lookbook. Not only do they have such a wide variety of swimwear in a myriad of sizes but they have so many great collaborations with people like Ashley Graham, Gabi Fresh and more. I was particularly drawn to Gabi’s swimwear this year so I had to feature a couple of suits from her line.

Kenneth Cole is making its debut to my annual lookbook. To be honest, I had no idea Kenneth Cole even made plus size swimwear. When I saw this mesh embroidered suit though, I immediately knew that it was a winner. This year I was particularly drawn to pieces that are unlike anything I’ve seen before and this was definitely it. The mesh panels with the beautiful garden design is super chic and a really clever way of being sexy without showing too much.

Last but certainly not least, there’s Miraclesuit. These suits are one of the most supportive and well-designed suits on the market. They hug you in all the right places and slim you down in the all the right places. I’m always amazed at how tiny my waist looks in their swimwear. Known for their one pieces, I went with some fun prints that really brought the suits to life!

I know that it is not always easy to feel confident in swimwear and trust me I have my days. Especially when it comes time to shoot this lookbook, I get especially anxious. Plus size women already get attention, whether positive or not, when wearing swimwear so you can imagine that it only amplifies when there’s a photographer and multiple wardrobe changes involved. However, each time I have done this shoot I have been met with people that give me amazing compliments and remind me of why I continue to showcase this lookbook. The more you face your fears and decide to live your life instead of hiding in the background, the more you realize that your insecurities are insignificant. It’s time to grow into confidence and enjoy all that life has to offer!

Plus Size Swimwear Lookbook

March 20, 2016

Hi everyone! I am so excited to present to you another plus size swimwear lookbook. If you have been following me a while now, you know that this is an annual feature that I have done on my blog for two years now (previous found here and here). Every year, I select some of my favorite styles of the season and style them to give you a little beach chic inspiration. Each time I try to make it bigger and better, offering different styles and different locations. For this time around, I decided to shoot the photos on my vacation to the Dominican Republic! I couldn’t resist the beautiful landscapes that served as the perfect backdrops for these suits. There are so many more options for plus size swimwear so I really wanted to tap into some new companies that you may not have heard of. When January hits, I am always excited at what new styles/colors/designs are being offered for plus size swimwear. We have come a LONG way and I’m so happy with the direction that it is going in. So without further adieu, here is my 2016 swimwear lookbook!

I discovered La Blanca swim while browsing through Nordstrom’s website. I literally stopped in my tracks because not only did I love the high waist ruched design of these suits but the colors and print choices were stunning! I was even more excited when I received my shipment and was able to try the suits on. They fit like a glove and were even more vibrant in person than online. Adequate support, great design placement and flattering cuts made these some of my all time favorites.

I love to mix and match swimwear to create my own sets. I treat it just as I would clothes in styling them to make it my own. I fell in love with this ruffle top from Becca Etc. because of the color and style. It has an intricate design on the back that is super cute and unexpected. I decided to do a little color blocking with it by pairing the bright pink with neon green bottoms from ASOS. The two played off of each other perfectly, creating a fun and bright palette for the afternoon sun.

I call Miraclesuit the spanx of swimwear because that’s exactly what they are. I mean, do you see my waist?! I wish that I could say that its naturally that way but I assure you, it is not. This brand’s claim to fame is that you can “look 10 pounds lighter in 10 seconds” and I think they certainly live up to that statement. The bathing suits are made of a super sturdy material and it also has a lining inside that keeps everything in place. Many women feel as though one pieces can be frumpy or not as cute as bikinis but that couldn’t be any further from the truth. This Oceanus suit accentuated my every curve and matched the beautiful Caribbean water.

And last but not least, I always have to include something from the GabiFresh x Swim Sexy line at Swimsuitsforall. Every year, Gabi pushes the envelope a little more, creating eye catching designs, interesting details and fabulous prints. This year was no exception. I was so excited to see that she was incorporating cover ups into the mix. I’m a huge advocate for them as I feel like they just add that extra element of chic to the whole look. This camouflage-esque print suit and matching caftan made me feel like I was the queen of the jungle.

For those that have been following my blog for some time now (hey love bugs), you know that every year I feature plus size swimwear that I love. Last year, I featured some great suits from high waist bikinis to a fitted swim dress and I was so excited to see what new designs would come out this year. There were SO many great options to choose from this time around that it was hard to narrow it down to just a few but I managed to exercise restraint and come up with my absolute favorite suits of the season. Sorella Swim is a company that I featured last year and it’s no surprise that they have made it to my favorites again this year. A great one piece is essential but not all one pieces are made equal. The ruched detail throughout the midsection of the suit is super slimming. Also the twist detail is subtle but adds a chic touch to the suit.

Last but not least, Monif C., who I believe is the original pioneer of trendy plus size swimwear. There’s just something about a Monif C. swimsuit that makes you feel so great in it because it fits in all the right places. The colors, use of prints and strategically placed cut outs are both flattering and outright cute.

Must-Have Plus Size Swimwear of the Season

June 22, 2014

Summer is upon us and I just love everything about this time of year. The long days and warm nights, the backyard BBQs and holiday parties, and of course anything that has to do with water. I don’t know about you, but I stock up on swimwear in preparation of all of the upcoming festivities. This time around, there seems to be an abundance of fabulous, chic and vibrant swimwear for every body shape and I love that every season, we have more and more options for plus size swimwear. So here are a few of my favorites that I will be rocking all summer long!

Why I love it: One piece swimsuits have definitely taken on a whole new look. No more are the boring, unflattering suits of the past. This has everything that you would want in a one piece: the bra-like cup provides ample support, the ruched bodice minimizes the tummy area and the design completely conforms to a curvy figure.

Why I love it: The fabulous GabiFresh designed this ultra-cute midkini for Swimsuits For All. Ever since I first saw it, I knew that I needed to have it in my possession. The colorful Aztec pattern is enough to make you swoon but there is so much more to this suit. The midkini style is a mixture of a bikini and a tankini so it has the appeal of separates but hangs a bit lower on the torso. The slits on the sides are stylish, chic and tastefully sexy (which I live for).

Why I love it: And last but not least, the epitome of cutting edge plus size swimwear, Monif C. This is actually my very first Monif C purchase and I have to say that her swimwear does not disappoint. The fit, the color, the quality is so deliberate and well designed. Monif C knows how to accentuate curves, slim your frame and make heads turn while doing it.

I encourage all of my ladies of all shapes and sizes to step out of your comfort zone a little bit this season. Do not let fear of others opinions dictate your life and happiness. You are so beautiful, every part of you is beautiful. Be bold, be trendy, be curvy!
