Plus Size Swimwear Lookbook 2017

June 11, 2017

My swimwear lookbook is here! Recently, I took a little vacation to Miami as you can see here. I stayed at the beautiful Nobu Eden Roc hotel and had an amazing time. While there, I took advantage of the gorgeous scenery and shot my annual swimwear lookbook right on the hotel grounds. Now if you’ve been following me for a while now, you already know the drill. But to those that are new to my blog, every year I round up some of my favorite swimwear styles of the season. You can see my previous posts here and here. Historically, it has been so difficult to find trendy plus size swimwear but every year I do this lookbook there seems to be more and more options. Here are just some of the cute styles that caught my eye and that I styled with my own little flair. Enjoy!

I featured La Blanca for the first time on my lookbook last year and I had to feature them again. This time, I went with their one pieces that are unlike any that I have seen out there. Their attention to detail with the lace up front and gold hardware makes for one fabulous poolside look.

What can I say? SwimsuitsForAll will always be a staple in my swimwear lookbook. Not only do they have such a wide variety of swimwear in a myriad of sizes but they have so many great collaborations with people like Ashley Graham, Gabi Fresh and more. I was particularly drawn to Gabi’s swimwear this year so I had to feature a couple of suits from her line.

Kenneth Cole is making its debut to my annual lookbook. To be honest, I had no idea Kenneth Cole even made plus size swimwear. When I saw this mesh embroidered suit though, I immediately knew that it was a winner. This year I was particularly drawn to pieces that are unlike anything I’ve seen before and this was definitely it. The mesh panels with the beautiful garden design is super chic and a really clever way of being sexy without showing too much.

Last but certainly not least, there’s Miraclesuit. These suits are one of the most supportive and well-designed suits on the market. They hug you in all the right places and slim you down in the all the right places. I’m always amazed at how tiny my waist looks in their swimwear. Known for their one pieces, I went with some fun prints that really brought the suits to life!

I know that it is not always easy to feel confident in swimwear and trust me I have my days. Especially when it comes time to shoot this lookbook, I get especially anxious. Plus size women already get attention, whether positive or not, when wearing swimwear so you can imagine that it only amplifies when there’s a photographer and multiple wardrobe changes involved. However, each time I have done this shoot I have been met with people that give me amazing compliments and remind me of why I continue to showcase this lookbook. The more you face your fears and decide to live your life instead of hiding in the background, the more you realize that your insecurities are insignificant. It’s time to grow into confidence and enjoy all that life has to offer!

TrendyCurvy Travels: Coachella

April 25, 2017

If you’ve been following me on social media, you know that I just recently went to my very first Coachella! I am still recovering from the exhausting yet fun-filled weekend but I wanted to write a quick post about my entire experience. If you are ever thinking about going to Coachella or really any festival for that matter, you should read this post!

First, let’s discuss how I got there. Lincoln Motor Company graciously lent me a vehicle so that I could ride to the desert in style. I received a 2017 Lincoln MKZ and let me tell you, this car is the epitome of sleek! With a technology driven intuitive system, luxurious interior with plush seating and a beautifully designed exterior, the only word that comes to mind is impressive. If there was any way to take a trip to my first Coachella, this was it! It definitely set the tone for the weekend.

So now let’s discuss the festival. In a nutshell, I had an absolute blast. I got to see so many acts from Kendrick Lamar to DJ Khaled to Kehlani and more. The best thing about the festival is that there are mainstream artists as well as underground so you get the best of both worlds. I literally almost lost my voice from singing along to some of my favorites songs (yea I’m that person at concerts lol). The entire experience was just one big party.

Now, let’s discuss the real. These are not necessarily the “cons” but just the facts that you should know about before going to a festival such as this. Coachella brings in about 100,000 people per weekend. Yes, you heard that right. You don’t realize the sheer mass of what that many people looks like until you are in it. Needless to say, it can be overwhelming.

So here are the things to keep in mind:

  1. Personal space does not exist. It’s impossible to with that many people. All of the shows are packed even for the smaller artists. You will have people all around you pushing to get through or dancing to the music so be prepared to become very close acquaintances with your neighbors.

2. Water is essential! I know this seems self explanatory but you don’t realize just how dehydrated you can become being out in 90+ degree weather for 3 whole days. I don’t think that I’ve ever drunk so much water in such a short amount of time. Oh and bring cash! There were water stations to fill your water bottles for free however they were always packed. I just opted to pay $2 for the bottled water and save myself the wait.

3. Wear comfortable shoes…but know that your feet will still hurt by the end of the day. When I was on my way back to the hotel Saturday night, I realized that I had been standing for nearly 8 hours straight. There were so many shows that I wanted to see that I was literally going from stage to stage, only sparing time to eat and drink water in between. Compound that with endless walking and you will be sore by the end of the day.

4. Remember to go with the flow. This is probably my biggest piece of advice. Know what you signed up for. Normal things that would bother you, you just have to let go. Rude people, drunk obnoxious people, extreme heat, port-o-potties, etc. all just come with the territory. If you have an easy going attitude, you will have a much better experience.

Until next time Coachella!

TrendyCurvy Travels: Lake Tahoe

November 11, 2016

A couple of weekends ago, I went on a little getaway to the beautiful Lake Tahoe. For those of you that unfamiliar with Lake Tahoe, it is the largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada and the largest alpine lake in North America. In other words, it’s huge! It straddles the border of California and Nevada so much so that even in one day I went from state to state several times. I was in search of a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles city life and to be in the presence of serene nature. Many of you have asked about the details of my trip so here’s the low down.

Where I stayed

I stayed at the picturesque Northstar Lodge by Welk Resort in Truckee which is the neighboring city to Lake Tahoe. I did a room tour on Instagram and Snapchat so that you can all see the massive layout of the rooms at this lodge. I went with friends so we opted for the 3 bedroom lodge that was fit with 2 fireplaces and 3 bathrooms. It was immaculate!

What I did

Our resort was located at the north end of the lake. Since I was really in search of relaxation and nature, we decided to drive about 75% of the way to the south end, stopping at landmarks along the way. The lake is so big that driving from where we were at in the north to the southernmost point that we stopped at before turning around (which isn’t even the most southern point) takes about an hour. So there was plenty to see along the way as you drive along the lake’s coast.

Our first stop was called Crystal Bay Lookout. It had the most breathtaking views that I think I have probably ever seen. It is a bit of a hike to get to the top (about a mile or so) and trust me I thought about stopping along the way but it was so worth it!

After coming back down the hill, we stopped at King’s Beach where you can see just how crystal clear the water actually is. Then after stopping in town and grabbing a bite to eat, we found this waterfall of the side of the road on our way to Emerald Bay Lookout. It was so beautiful! It’s something about being in the presence of nature that just bring me peace.

So that was my trip! Pretty uneventful and quick but a great weekend escape.

NYC with Team Fit for Me

June 22, 2016

Hey everyone! So I am still recovering from my recent trip to New York City and adjusting back into everyday life. And while I still haven’t unpacked, I wanted to give a complete recap of my week spent with team Fit for Me in the Big Apple. As you are probably already aware, I was selected to be a brand ambassador for Fit For Me which is a division of Fruit of the Loom that is specifically made for curves. Fit for Me by Fruit of the Loom sponsors Full Figured Fashion Week that is held annually in NYC and marked with events, fashion shows, workshops, etc. all week long. So needless to say, I was a busy girl! Here are all of the week’s events plus outfit details all wrapped into one!

Day 1

I landed in NYC at 5:45am and then darted off to my first event at 9:00am. Talk about a quick turnaround! Thanks to concealer and this beautifully colored dress set, I was ready to go. This outfit was perfect to kick off the week. It was vibrant and comfortable and hugged me in all the right places!

This event was curated by Denise Caldwell, celebrity stylist, and showcased how Fit for Me underwear and tanks can suit any outfit.

Day 2 (Happy birthday to me!)

I was fortunate enough to bring in my birthday in the great city of NYC! I felt so blessed to be able to partake in this amazing opportunity while celebrating another year of life. God is good! I celebrated by doing what any other tourist would do, by going to the Statue of Liberty. It was such a beautiful day with breathtaking views of the city.

Upon returning to my hotel room, I was greeted with some flowers that my family sent me and champagne, a card and some of my favorite goodies from my boyfriend. I felt so loved! It was great to see everything on my window seal every time I returned to the room.

Then it was time for the Curves at Sea boat cruise! This is one of the most highly anticipated events of the week. Everyone gets decked out in their all white outfits and heads to a Hornblower yacht that cruises around the harbor. My Fit for Me team and I were dressed to impress!

Day 3

I started the day by attending the Celebrate My Size Expo where you could shop your favorite brands such as Fit for Me, Ashley Stewart, Lane Bryant and more as well as enjoy some light refreshments!

Day 4

I had a little downtime so I decided to go on over to Greenwich village for some banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery (so good!). Of course, still representing Fit for Me!

Then I went out to an event and dinner with some fellow blogger boos in this super cute Adrianna Papell dress from Gwynnie Bee! Available for closeting soon!

Day 5

Another gorgeous day in NYC called for a dress that was as bright as the sunshine! I absolutely love this color for the Summer and the fit wrapped around my every curve. I got to meet so many of my followers and the people that I follow and it was a such positive sisterhood of plus size women.

Finally, I rounded out my NY trip by attending the highly anticipated runway showcase. Held in a beautiful ballroom and showcasing designers like Ashley Stewart, Cameo de Bore and of course Fit for Me, it was a must see event!

Picture Perfect with Walgreens

May 2, 2016

Today I am reminiscing on a fun weekend spent in Palm Springs during weekend 1 of Coachella. I attended the POPSUGAR Cabana Club for the second year in a row, and let me tell you, this is one of my favorite events to attend. The party is marked with festival-style fashion and vibes and there are always great activities to partake in while there. Held at the beautiful Avalon Hotel, you can’t help but to capture pictures all over this venue. With the perfect setup of the DJ in the black and white cabana, picturesque pool right behind it and surprises in each of the villas, it was another amazing event.

This year, Walgreens helped us picture fanatics feed our addictions by having a cute photo Airstream at the venue. I, of course, took full advantage, snapping photos left and right. The cool thing is that the photos printed out right then AND you could send them via email as well. At , you can do something similar by printing your photos out online, on the app or in store. With the ability to choose different sizes, quantities and other products like Canvas prints, wood panels and more your creativity can run wild and you can develop some really unique items from your memorable moments just as I have done below.

Let’s Go Places: Palm Springs

April 22, 2016

If you’ve been following me on social media, you know that I recently took a trip to Palm Springs during weekend 1 of Coachella. I absolutely love Palm Springs and have been going there since I was a child. It’s truly my home away from home and such a relaxing retreat. Palm Springs during festival season however, is on a whole new level. Boho style, festival fashion and day parties are what the streets of Palm Springs are marked with during these two weekends of the year. The whole vibe and energy of the city is palpable!

I was fortunate enough to ride to the festival mecca in style in this electric red 2016 Toyota Rav4. I am so in love with this car and it was the perfect vehicle for the desert terrain (not to mention it just so happened to match my outfit). With its spacious interior and sleek exterior, I was ready to take on the desert sun in style.

Festival fashion is all about expressing yourself freely through your own personal style. It’s almost like you’re letting go of all the “rules” and just doing whatever makes you feel great. That’s what a car should be for you as well. Something that suits you the best and that makes you feel amazing driving it. So go out there and be free!

Thank you Toyota for the ride. Until the next location…
