In the spirit of Mother’s Day which is right around the corner, I’ve teamed up with Gwynnie Bee to style looks that are inspired by my mother. I don’t know about you all but I am becoming more and more like my mom everyday (whether I like it or not). The way that she organizes, the way she speaks, even her mannerisms are all becoming characteristics of me. I think what I inherited most from her is her style. She is such a classic woman that is always well put together. She knows exactly what garments will suit her the best and which ones will play up her best assets. Best of all, she loves a good bargain! The thrill of getting a high end item at a discounted price is her pride and joy. If there was a reality TV show about who got the best deals on clothes, my mother would be the star. This woman can tell you down to the penny how much she paid for something but only after you’ve complimented her on said items. I used to laugh and shake my head at her antics but I find myself so often saying now “Guess how much I paid for this ______?!” What can I say, like mother, like daughter.
I think the best thing that my mother has instilled in me is confidence. I remember one day in high school, I was faced with one of the first incidents that I can remember of a direct negative comment about my body. I was at a highly anticipated basketball game against a rival school and the game had just ended. My friends and I were all standing around talking when this girl, who I did not know, randomly came up to me and said “I just want to know, why are your thighs so big?” Now, that comment would not faze me in the least bit but imagine how fragile a sixteen-year-old’s feelings are especially since that comment was said in front of everybody. Needless to say, I went straight home and cried to my mother but like all moms do, they just have a way of turning things around. She told me that I was beautiful and strong and I truly believe that I would not be the person I am today had it not been for that conversation and many more. I mean, I have a blog that celebrates my big thighs for goodness sake! So thank you mommy for all your wisdom, all your love and all your bargain hunting tactics. Love you!
Head to Gwynnie Bee to start closeting now! Both of these looks are from their great selection and they are perfect for Spring. My mother would approve if that means anything to you
